Battery and Inverter Communication: The Basics for System Integration
CAN, RS485, protocol matching and commissioning checks that help batteries and inverters operate as one system.
A battery and inverter can share the same voltage range and still require communication work before commissioning. The BMS protocol, CAN or RS485 wiring, baud rate, termination resistance, battery address and inverter software profile all need to match. During commissioning, installers should verify state of charge, voltage, current limits, alarms and charge or discharge commands on both sides. For OEM projects, protocol confirmation should be completed before mass production so that firmware, cable pinout and manuals remain consistent with the approved system.
